When the Sharks Turn on Each Other:
Injury Law Firms Sue… Injury Law Firms
Insurance money has a way of turning everyone greedy. For years, personal injury law firms have gone toe-to-toe with big insurers, suing for billions. But now the pot of gold is so big, the lawyers are suing each other.
That’s right: two Boston heavyweights, Sokolove Law and Jason Stone Injury Lawyers, are locked in a legal slugfest over stolen trade secrets, unfair competition, and who really “owns” the secret sauce of running a billion-dollar injury firm.
Sokolove made its name back in the ‘80s with TV ads and toll-free numbers, building a nationwide empire that’s raked in more than $10 billion. Jason Stone, a smaller but fast-growing rival, is accused of stealing Sokolove’s entire playbook, thanks to a former employee who allegedly walked out the door with call-center scripts, training manuals, and client intake formulas.
Stone, of course, fires back that Sokolove is no real law firm at all, but a telemarketing machine disguised as one—referring clients out while its marketing empire pockets the profits. And now, in a twist worthy of a courtroom drama, the accusations fly: betrayal, secret sauce theft, unfair competition, millions in lost market share.
Let’s step back. What does this say about the system? For decades, insurers have slow-walked, denied, or lowballed claims, forcing desperate families into court. That made the trial bar rich. Now the riches are so fat, the lawyers themselves are cannibalizing each other.
Meanwhile, policyholders, the people left without roofs, cars, or cash, are still waiting for justice. But instead of justice, they get lawsuits over who runs the most profitable marketing scheme.
The insurers don’t mind. The lawyers get distracted fighting each other, while insurance executives keep the real treasure chest locked tight.
This isn’t justice; it’s a circus. And while the sharks circle, everyday people are still the ones bleeding in the water.
