💀 The Organ Donation Hustle:Who Really Gets Paid?
"You give. They profit. You get nothing."
Generally, I write about what I know (insurance), and yet there is insurance involved. However, yesterday, my wife and I were discussing being an organ donor. The altruistic Mrs. was proud of the fact that she had “Organ Donor” listed on her driver’s license.
Ole Jack (of course) had a different take. The following is a result of last night’s discussion:
My wife is an organ donor. She signed up years ago, like millions of Americans, thinking she was doing a noble thing. And she is.
But the deeper I dig into the organ transplant system, the more I realize:
She’s giving her heart away for free… so someone else can sell it for six figures.
That, my friends, is the hustle.
⚖️ Let's Break It Down
Here’s how the “donation” system actually works in the U.S.:
You die.
Your organs, and if you're on the donor list, they are handed over free of charge to an Organ Procurement Organization (OPO).
That OPO doesn't sell the organ (that would be illegal), but it does charge tens of thousands for "procurement" and "transport."
The hospital then performs the transplant and bills the recipient (or their insurance) upwards of $300,000–$800,000.
Your family? You still have to pay for the funeral.
💸 Wait... Who's Getting Paid?
Let's follow the money trail:
Player Gets Paid? How Much?
Organ Donor's Family ❌ No $0.00
Organ Procurement Org ✅ Yes $30,000+ per organ
Hospitals & Surgeons ✅ Yes $300,00-$800,000transplant
Insurance Companies ✅ Yes (somehow) Billing & reinsurance
Pharmaceutical Companies ✅ Yes Lifetime anti-rejection meds
🚨 So Why Can’t You Sell an Organ?
Because of the National Organ Transplant Act of 1984, which made it a federal crime to buy or sell human organs. The idea was to:
Prevent exploitation of poor people
Keep the system ethical and fair
Avoid rich people buying their way to the front of the line
Good intentions. But here’s the problem:
They banned private individuals from profiting… and left the door wide open for corporations to get rich.
💡 Here's What We Believe at Inssux:
If your loved one’s organs saved lives, you deserve transparency.
If companies profit from a donation, you should share in that value.
If it’s truly a donation, no one should be making money off it.
Period.
🧠 What Needs to Change?
Transparency on where donated organs go, who profits, and what it cost.
Compensation for donor families. Funeral reimbursements, tax credits, or even stipends.
Modernizing the law. Regulated, ethical compensation models already work in other countries.

So next time someone tells you to “be an organ donor,” ask them:
“Sure. But where’s the money going?”
Then send them here.
