NHTSA is pushing the model year change for its ratings because test procedures for pedestrian protection lag the headline rule. That means another year of mixed badges and marketing claims without a common ruler.
Insurers want comparable data on AEB, lane keeping, and blind spot systems because small differences move loss costs. Publish the procedures, invite peer review, and lock the calendar. The street is the laboratory. Waiting helps no one walking a crosswalk.
