Speech, Jobs, and the Risk of Being Canceled: Is There Insurance For That?
At will employment meets viral feeds.
After the Charlie Kirk killing, employers moved fast against employees whose posts crossed a line. In most of America, at will rules and brand protection give companies wide latitude. That is reality, not a civics lesson.
Could there be cancel insurance? Parts already exist: employment practices liability for wrongful termination claims, media liability for defamation, personal umbrella for certain torts. But no policy will save a reputation torched by your own post.
My take: companies need bright, written standards for public conduct, and workers need to treat social media like a microphone, not a whisper. Risk management starts before you hit send.
