Premiums Paid/Insurance Fails
Why your insurance companies deny your claims when you need them the most.
Greetings and Salutations, Insurance Haters,
Have you ever gotten your insurance claim denied, even though you are convinced it should be covered under your policy?
“ I’ve paid premiums all these years, and now, when I need them, my big ass insurance company is refusing to pay my claim” is the phrase I heard over and over again when I was in the retail Insurance business.
It broke my heart, as selling policies in Florida, I suffered through Hurricanes Andrew, Katrina, Wilma, Jean, and many others.
Unlike most agents (I am retired and no longer licensed), I fought for my clients because I felt that I had a moral obligation to do so. I even fought the claims that I didn’t think would be covered…and got some paid.
Of course, in 2025, I wouldn’t expect an agent to go to bat for a client in that way, as everything has become overly automated and impersonal. So, what should we do in this situation?
Empower yourself by thoroughly reading your policy and highlighting the areas you believe should cover your claim. It’s not a fun read but it may allow you to kick your Ambien habit.
This understanding will give you a sense of control over the situation. Call your Insurance Company to find out how to file an appeal. Before you begin any conversation, take down a name and an extension number so you can refer to that person. If you can record the call, do it (some states require you to tell them it is recorded.) Be very sweet in your voice, and try to connect on a human level. You catch more flies with Honey, so try not to sound whiney. Nobody likes a whiner.
Remember, you have options. Public adjusters, State Assistance Programs, and other non-profits can provide valuable guidance. Even AI agents are on the horizon. There's hope for a positive outcome.
Raise the stakes: After your insurance company explains why your claim was denied, consider emailing them to explain why you believe the rejection was a mistake. Send a copy to your state's Department of Insurance and your local representative. This can help draw attention to your case and potentially influence the decision. Remember, the more eyeballs you have on it, the better.
I hope this blog post has provided you with some valuable insights on how to navigate the often frustrating process of appealing denied insurance claims.
